Here is a brief look at GHQ's 1:1200 model of HMS Bellona, 1760, the namesake of her class and the prototype for so many of the British 74 gun ships of the later 18th century. Beautiful proportions, and lots of nice crisp detail as you would expect form GHQ.
As usual I've rebuilt the bowsprit with brass rods, and used Langton ratlines and resin sea base. I've done the rigging using nylon paintbrush bristles.
And here is a an attempt to use ChatGPT to help imagine the model at sea with the fleet:

Glad to see you around again after few years of hiatus! What a funny coincidence that I just finished Bellone (the 32 gun French frigate of Langton old stock... :D ).
ReplyDeleteBy the way, now that Langton has finally retired, you wouldn't know where to get the etched ratlines?
Thanks for the welcome back, hopefully this will be the first of many new posts. I've got a number of ships in various stages of unreadiness, but getting close. And you've done some lovely sharp work on the Bellone I see.
DeleteI'm crossing my fingers and hoping that someone will soon purchase the Langton line and bring it back into production. The ratlines in particular are very much missed. I'm just running down my very meager stock.
I ordered a few brass ratlines sets from the League of Augsburg line of ship models. They're made for their Anglo-Dutch wars line, but are similar enough in style and size to some of the Langton sets that I am hoping I can use them. They are thinner brass though, much more bendable.
