Auctioning off a ship: 1:300 Langton Miniatures Brig [EDIT: SOLD]

This is a model that I completed and posted to my blog some time ago, but in an effort to clear space in my over-crowded Brooklyn apartment I've decided to auction it off on Ebay.

It's an English brig from the period of the Napoleonic wars, and features crew members on deck and in the rigging, a painted sea base, MDF pedestal and a fitted plexiglass cover that can be removed.

If it turns out there is a market for this sort of thing (I've never tried it before!) then a few other similar models may follow.

The auction can be found here:

Take a look if you're interested in this sort of thing! - James

  1. Holy cow James! May I ask what you got for it? I wish I had known you were selling it. If you decide to sell any more would you please let me know? I really would appreciate it. I don't have any of this scale and I would be proud to own one of your exquisite ships (if it doesn't break the bank.)

    Regards,

    1. Don't be a cheap skate. Pay a skilled artist a fair price for his work and don't try to steal from him/her by being cheap. How would you like someone to offer you $5 per hour to do your profession? That is how artists are treated. Especially modelers whose work takes many, many hours and whose skills must be perfected over years.

  2. Beautiful work James. I have tried to sell on Ebay but find the sort of buyer on there to be bottom-feeder cheap skates. I have come across so many talentless people who want to buy a fine piece of art for nothing that I don't even like offering my pieces anymore. To all the cheap asses out there: I will hire you do do work in your profession for $5 an hour. How do you like that? Stop being cheap skates and pay people what their art and talent is worth!! After all, you cannot do work like this in a million years. So stop trying to steal from talented people who can!

    1. Hi Master Modeler, thank you for the compliments. Yes, the market can be pretty brutal, and doesn't often give a good return for the time invested in finishing a piece. I would not want to rely on selling models for income. But at least when I need to clear up some space I can bring in a little spare cash. If you're trying to auction something off, setting a fair reserve for yourself is definitely important.
